Al-Karameh Crossing (colloquially known to Palestinians as al-Jissir, the bridge) spans the Jordan River near Jericho and serves as a critical link between the West Bank and and everything outside of it. The land crossing carries three official names referencing three lengthy and taxing zones: the Allenby Bridge (named after the British governor Edmund Allenby) on the Israeli side; al-Karameh (translating literally to Dignity) on the Palestinian side; and the King Hussein once in Jordan. What feels like a perpetual humiliation ritual in the Jordan valley remains the only crossing point for Palestinians traveling to and from Palestine.
